Why Sherway

The Challenge:

A national retail chain with over 200 outlets across Canada needed a full service logistics provider to manage the distribution and invoicing of all goods being shipped to its stores.

The Sherway Solution:

A custom application was developed "in-house" to manage the client's order and invoicing process. The application received its information through the client's proprietary file format and automatically converted it into an EDI message that was fed directly to the Sherway Warehouse Management system.

Once the orders were received and confirmed, this same application created electronic files that accomplished the following:

  • Generated invoices to be used to bill the stores for the goods received
  • Generated an output file that was imported directly into the clients' accounting system
  • Generated an output file that updated the status of inventory in the clients' proprietary system
The Result:
  • Improved order flow
  • Reduced number of clerical hours on both the client and Sherway's side
  • Seamless integration between inventory and accounting systems
  • Cost savings realized from developing an application in-house rather than outsourcing
The Challenge:

An international conglomerate added a small warehouse to one of their existing facilities in Quebec. This warehouse required a WMS system that could seamlessly integrate with their existing ERP system. After careful analysis, it was determined that the best course of action was to install a third party WMS with EDI capability.

The Sherway Solution:

Using the latest VPN technology, Sherway Warehousing installed a WMS system that used the servers located in our corporate offices. EDI mapping was then done to ensure that the WMS would talk to the ERP. Training was provided to the clients' staff who still maintain their inventories and orders in Sherway's WMS system today.

The Result:
  • Rapid WMS installation at client facility " completed in less than one month
  • Minimal investment from the client's perspective. No capital expenditures required for WMS startup as the infrastructure was already in place.
  • Multi-tiered support available through the expertise of Sherway staff.
The Challenge:

A major supplier of manufacturing raw materials was faced with the unfortunate situation of having their existing 3PL supplier filing for bankruptcy, forcing them to select a new 3PL and move their product within a timeframe of three days to ensure minimal disruption to their business. This client also required special inventory tracking as well as specific pallet picking, which made the location accuracy extremely important.

The Sherway Solution:

This supplier chose Sherway Warehousing as their new 3PL on Thursday and began the process of transferring their stock on Friday. Sherway created the necessary square footage and prepared for inbound deliveries while the client diligently made all necessary notifications to carriers and customers. The warehouse also converted bulk floor locations to single pallet floor locations during this process. While this was happening, a new type of shipping document was developed by the client together with Sherway's technical staff. By Monday, the client was shipping product with negligible impact to its customers.

The Result:

During the course of transition, Sherway and the client worked to ensure that all product was transferred accurately and received into the newly created warehouse locations. The first wave of orders were entered and picked before start of business Monday and were shipped on schedule, as were other deliveries for the week.
